Cities Today

Cities Today is a leading magazine on the sustainable development of cities. Bringing together the experience of the multilateral sector with that of the private sector and the local governments themselves, the magazine focuses on the challenges and solutions for city leaders and local governments. EUROCITIES and Cities Today have had a media partnership agreement since April 2013. The publication provides analysis, case studies and features cover transport, energy, construction, public safety, infrastructure, planning, finance, and the use of Information and Communication Technology in urban development and management.

Committee of the Regions

The Committee of the Regions (CoR) is a political assembly of local and regional authorities, with a consultative role in the EU legislative process. This institution of the European Union was established in 1994 and is based in Brussels. EUROCITIES and the CoR cooperate regularly with exchange of information and expertise on urban-related EU matters and joint-events. EUROCITIES contributes frequently to CoR official reports on issues relevant for cities. Several cities are simultaneously members of EUROCITIES and the CoR, which further enhances the cooperation between the two organizations.

The Employment and Social Innovation (EaSI) programme is an EU financing instrument that is intended to promote a high level of quality and sustainable employment, guaranteeing adequate and decent social protection, combating social exclusion and poverty and improving working conditions.
EUROCITIES and European Commission DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion are partnering under the PROGRESS axis of the Employment and Social Innovation (EaSI) financing instrument 2014-2020. As part of our collaboration we will plan a series of activities to raise the profile of cities’ work on social inclusion issues. These activities will include the publication and dissemination of good practice case studies, videos and position papers; information sharing between members; and mutual learning activities, such as study visits. It will also help EUROCITIES to develop and promote its policy work at EU level on social affairs and related issues.

EMI is an institute created both for and by cities. It was set up to create innovative knowledge about the opportunities and challenges facing Europe’s cities and metropolitan areas. Essentially, EMI is a network institute actively supporting the sharing of knowledge between urban professionals, research institutes, civil society, network organisations, private companies and EU institutions. In this way EMI aims to bridge the gap between research and practice.

European Enterprise Awards

The European Enterprise Awards, launched by the European Commission, recognise and reward outstanding initiatives that support entrepreneurship at regional level. Policies that promote entrepreneurship and create a favourable environment for business, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises are crucial if the European Union is to rise to its number one challenge of stimulating economic growth and creating new jobs. The awards, which were launched 2005, are thus not only a competition; they also aim to raise awareness of enterprise, both policy and delivery activities, and celebrate success. Each year, pan-European award winners will be identified and will serve as inspiration for others.
