‘Work with us on employment issues’ say cities to EU commissioners

The EU needs to better engage with its cities in order to address the employment crisis in Europe. This was our message to European commissioners Marianne Thyssen, responsible for employment, social affairs, skills and labour mobility, and Elżbieta Bieńkowska, responsible for internal market, industry, entrepreneurship and SMEs, at a meeting on 22 February in Brussels.

EUROCITIES politicians discuss EU urban agenda with Commissioner Creţu

Mayors and politicians from European cities met Commissioner Creţu to put forward their views for an EU urban agenda. The politicians reiterated many of the points we have been making throughout the development of the urban agenda, including the need for cities to be genuine partners, and systematic and direct involvement of cities in EU policy developments that have an impact at local level.

EUROCITIES statement on standards in the Digital Single Market

In our new statement on standards in the Digital Single Market, we call for a more active role for cities in the development of ICT standards, either directly or through associations like EUROCITIES. The local level can make an important contribution by providing input on citizens' needs, testing standards in real projects during the development process, and ensuring the consistent application of existing standards through procurement.
